Branch out with Beads

beaded structure

This workshop is for those who wish to consider beads in an imaginative way.

Using a wide variety of hard and soft materials and a variety of techniques, students will produce unusual beads in terms of scale, structure and usage. The beads will be used to build  three-dimensional forms, constructing sculptural structures and decorative embellishments for hats or jewellery.

This course aims to:

  • experiment with beads
  • produce a range of beads using a variety of techniques and methods
  • use the beads made to construct items of the students choice.

The course is for those who enjoy making beads and who are prepared to experiment using paper, cloth and paint.

During the course we will make  beads from clay, straws, wire, and fabric. These will be painted, and embellished with tiny beads, sequins and stitch.

Individual tutorials will be given and assessment will be by observation and practise.

By the end of the course students should have learnt how to make beads with a variety of materials, will have an understanding of contemporary bead making and usage. They will have samples of beads and an item they have made using beads. Students will have an increased knowledge of equipment and products and have a broader appreciation of possibilities for experimentation.

The course can be tailored for one, two or more days according to need.
