Structure-Print, Stitch, Fold

Print on paper and fabric to create decorative surfaces that will be folded and formed into dimensional structures.

Based on Japanese techniques, this course will explore printed Lutrador, organdie, tissuetex and fine cotton lawn to make delicate stitched surfaces for  small container forms differing in size and scale.

The course is in three stages. The first is to select an image suitable to be made into a print block. The block/s will be used to create the printed fabric that will subsequently be folded into container forms. The folding aspect requires a fine, crisp fabric that will take a hot iron. the printed fabrics will have added stitch which may be by hand or machine but will need to to be flat and smooth to enable folding and in some instances to be visible on both sides of the fabric.

The course will appeal to those who enjoy embellishing fabric with print and stitch and who like precision and accuracy.
