The CSW was set up in response to a demand for the opportunity for textile artists to develop personal practice after emerging from a qualification course. This is often a daunting time when working alone without the formality of a course, structure is difficult.
The CSW aims to allow participants to develop their practice within a supportive atmosphere where individual and peer support is part of the workshop programme. Observational studies and a range of challenges underpin the development of the design process and stitch techniques. Participants are also asked to consider their work within the wider context of contemporary culture. This results in the gradual development of the participants’ independence and in the production of innovative and original work.
Three weekends take place during the year culminating every second year in a group exhibition organised and run by the CSW members. The weekends are held in the Village Hall at Harberton Ford, just outside Totnes in Devon.
Dates for 2011 are: March 12/13th, June 25/26th, October 1/2nd.
